MERINOS D'ARLES SELECTION ©

Till the early 90ees the Merino d’Arles wool was a recognized type to the wool trade and spinners and knitters

loved the style to improve the bulkiness of their yarns or fabrics.

With the detoriation of wool prices and the rise of Chinas textile industry no care was given anymore to the clip,

either in preparation nor in shearing or collecting. The wool was full of PP ropes, foreign matters and straw,

was simply pressed as bulk cargo into bales and send to China.

With the consequence of lower wool prices every year for the breeders.

To break this vicious circle we grouped a circle of quality breeders which still have the pride and interest

to produce a top quality wool and which genetic animal material still corresponds to the

Merino d’Arles breed not crossbred with other fancy races.

This group we called “Circle de Qualitè” and we have set up rules and standards concerning the animals,

the clip preparation and the shearing and packing itself.

After shearing the wool is collected and brought into our warehouse in the South of France

and sorted there, sometimes it is even sorted direct during the shearing.

The result is a clean full fleece, with all stains and foreignmatter removed, ready for scouring and combing.
